- With a new project awarded to its company in Brazil, ISA CTEEP, the company has a total of three of the projects delivered in one of the largest public tenders in the country’s history.
- The total estimated investment of the three projects is approximately USD 1.15 billion.
The National Electric Power Agency (ANEEL) gave ISA CTEEP, ISA’s company in Brazil, the responsibility to build, operate, and maintain Lot 1 (Project 1) of the last energy transmission tender, one of the largest in Brazil’s history (on June 30 it handed over two other projects to ISA CTEEP). Thanks to the award of this last project, ISA CTEEP consolidates itself as the company with the highest number of projects awarded in this tender.
According to ANEEL’s benchmark, this project, the second largest in the tender, will require an investment of approximately USD 650 million for the construction of 1,116 kilometers of transmission lines and three new substations connecting the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. The Annual Allowed Revenue (RAP) amounts to USD 58.2 million.
Lot 1 will allow the entry of renewable energies, mostly from wind and solar farms, in western Bahía, and will enable new connection points in the three new substations to be built with the project. Also, during the construction of the project, more than 5,700 direct and indirect jobs will be generated, which will contribute to boosting the area’s economy by generating progress and development.

It is one of the most important high-voltage energy infrastructure projects tendered in recent years in Brazil, which will be developed with technical excellence, with the best social and environmental practices,” Juan Emilio Posada Echeverri, ISA’s CEO, said.
Achievements of the June 2023 tender
In addition to the newly acquired Lot 1, the company was awarded Lots 7 (Itatiaia Project) and 9 (Água Vermelha Project).
Lot 7 (Itatiaia Project) is fundamental for the transmission of renewable energy, as it directly brings solar generation to the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro and relieves the load on the existing Governador Valadares 6 substation. This project involves the construction of 522 kilometers of double-circuit transmission lines in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the creation of a new 500 kV substation in Leopoldina 2.
Lot 9 (Água Vermelha Project) will connect new photovoltaic generation projects in the northwest of São Paulo and in the Triángulo Mineiro region, and will make the transport of surplus biomass generation easier.
With these acquisitions, ISA CTEEP will bring renewable energy sources into the National Interconnected System to support the energy transition and meet the increasing demand by supplying large volumes of energy from renewable generation projects such as wind and solar farms.
