- ISA won in the Forests and Climate Change category for the actions carried out with the Conexión Jaguar Program, becoming a benchmark for other companies in terms of nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation through forest conservation and recovery.
- The Conexión Jaguar program is a leader in sustainable forestry projects. In addition to the Bóscares, it has received other awards such as the Best Corporate Emissions Offsetting Program in the Environmental Finance Awards ranking, among others.
Conexión Jaguar, the sustainability program of ISA and its companies, in alliance with South Pole and Panthera, has been granted the Bóscares awards, a recognition given by WWF Colombia, Acción Climática and Reforestamos to companies that stand out for their best practices and business initiatives in the care of forests and the communities located in these territories.
With this recognition, ISA ratifies its leadership in contributing to global causes such as biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation and becomes a reference to motivate other companies to play a proactive role in the care of forest ecosystems.
A total of 150 companies in Colombia were evaluated for the award, but only 15 were nominated in five categories: Forest Conservation, Reforestation and Forest Restoration, Sustainable Forest Management Promotion, Zero Deforestation Supply Chains and Forests and Climate Change. In this last category, ISA competed with Cemex Colombia and Davivienda, standing out and being awarded for the actions carried out with the Conexión Jaguar program.
“This award is very important for us because it recognizes the efforts, we have made to leave a legacy for future generations, materialized in more than 750 thousand hectares of protected forests with a potential reduction of 6 million tons of CO2. It also verifies that we are on the right track in meeting the global goals of the 2030 agenda, so we will continue working actively to care for the ecosystems that connect the Jaguar Corridor and that coincide with the territories where we are present in Latin America”, said María Adelaida Correa, Corporate Sustainability Director at ISA.
The Bóscares Awards is an initiative created in 2018 by Reforestamos, a civil society organization founded in Mexico, which seeks to promote sustainable development through the care of forests. The Bóscares has researched information on more than 900 companies in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru. In 2021, the award was replicated for the first time in other Latin American countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia and Peru, thanks to the sponsorship of the French Development Agency (AFD) and partner organizations in the different countries; in Colombia, for example, Acción Climática and WWF Colombia were part of the organization, as well as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Asocarbono, among others, as part of the evaluating jury.
In addition to the Bóscares, the Conexión Jaguar program has received other recognitions such as Best Corporate Emissions Offsetting Program, according to the Environmental Finance Awards 2020 ranking; the Andesco 2021 environmental category as the best environmental setting in utility companies; Sustainable Development 2020 award with 1st place in the Environment category of the SNMPE – National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy Contest; contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on land, recognized at the 9th United Nations Global Compact Summit in Colombia (2019) and recognition from Colciencias in the category of Organizational Innovation (2018 and 2019). This series of awards is the result of a constant effort that positions ISA at the forefront in the development of actions based on social and environmental commitments that generate Sustainable Value for new generations.
